Mode of Obscurity
Posted 2005-05-26A band that needs no introduction and has a library of material stretching over two decades is Depeche Mode. Electronic music masters and icon’s that dominated the 80’s and 90’s with their highly sophisticated sound scapes and songs that influenced so many of today’s talent in more genre’s than just electronic music.
It is because of this achievement that Depeche Mode is one of the best and respected acts for any band to do a tribute to and there is no shortage of them on the international stage. The band’s music has been covered by highly respected acts such as Rammstein, Smashing pumpkins and Marilyn Manson to mention a few.
Although this will not be the first tribute album to Depeche mode, ‘MODE OF OBSCURITY’ is unique in that it is the first South African tribute album of its kind that features the cream of the crop of South African rock bands from all over the country. The local rock scene over the last decade has exploded with talent and this compilation sets a stage for all these bands giving their own interpretation of a Depeche Mode track of their own choice.
This double CD compilation of no less than 26 tracks features the best bands that South Africa has to offer such as The Narrow, Fokofpolisiekar, 16 Stitch, Cutting Jade, Kobus, Parlotones, Wickhead and Pestroy to name but a few. Once again the great tracks of Depeche Mode will be show cased by these great bands in their own style and to a new generation of music lovers and most importantly lovers of local rock music.
The CD is scheduled for release in late July this year and will be a collectors piece for any fan of the bands that feature on it as these tracks are completely unique to MODE OF OBSCURITY.
